We’re hiring! Join our team of Content Analysts
Climate News Tracker is looking for a Content Analyst to join our small, mission-led team tracking how climate stories are covered across TV, radio/audio, and digital news.
The role
Location: London-based (Hybrid: Remote + Office)
Contract: Full time, initial 12 months with potential to extend
Climate News Tracker is seeking a Content Analyst to join our growing team tracking and analysing climate change coverage across UK broadcast and digital news. This role sits between our Data Content Analysts and Journalism Insights roles, combining editorial understanding with analytical thinking. You will work closely with both data content analysts and journalism insight specialists to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities in climate reporting across Public Service Broadcasters (PSBs) and other major news organisations.
We are looking for someone with strong analytical and communication skills who is interested in journalism, media, and climate storytelling. You do not need to be a programmer or data scientist, but you should feel confident working with structured information, identifying trends in coverage, and translating findings into clear editorial insight. This role would suit someone with experience in journalism, media research, communications, audience insights, or editorial analysis who wants to contribute to improving climate coverage in mainstream news.
About Us
Founded and led by journalists, Climate News Tracker works in partnership with the University of Exeter’s Centre for Climate Communication and Data Science (C3DS) to track and analyse climate news coverage. We monitor how climate issues are represented across TV, radio, and online platforms, helping newsrooms better understand how audiences engage with climate stories and where opportunities for stronger reporting exist. You can see examples of our work on our website.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse climate change coverage across UK TV, radio, and digital news platforms.
- Review and interpret findings from Climate News Tracker’s monitoring systems and datasets.
- Identify trends, patterns, and gaps in how climate stories are framed and reported.
- Assess editorial themes including tone, framing, prominence, context, and audience relevance.
- Compare how major broadcasters and publishers approach significant climate and environmental stories.
- Work closely with data analysts and journalism insights colleagues to develop editorial findings and reports.
- Contribute to written outputs including reports, newsletters, presentations, and website articles.
- Help communicate findings clearly to journalists, editors, and non-specialist audiences.
- Support the development of insight-led feedback for newsrooms and editorial teams.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret and explain findings clearly.
- Interest in journalism, media analysis, climate communication, or public interest reporting.
- Understanding of how news is produced across broadcast, digital, or online platforms.
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify patterns, themes, and trends in editorial content.
- Confidence working with spreadsheets and structured information.
- Ability to manage workload independently and work collaboratively within a small team.
- Interest in climate change, science, environment, or public service journalism.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working in or alongside journalism, media research, communications, or audience insight teams.
- Familiarity with qualitative content analysis or media monitoring.
- Experience presenting findings or producing insight reports.
- Understanding of UK Public Service Broadcasters and the UK media landscape.
- Experience using data visualisation or reporting tools.
- Knowledge of climate journalism and environmental reporting.
What We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who can combine curiosity about journalism with strong critical thinking and communication skills. You do not need advanced coding experience for this role. Instead, we are looking for someone who can:
- interpret findings critically,
- spot meaningful editorial trends,
- understand newsroom priorities,
- and communicate insights in a way that supports better climate journalism.
Working Arrangements
The role will begin as remote, with a transition to hybrid working in London including both in-office and remote days. Occasional UK travel may be required. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Diversity & Inclusion
Climate News Tracker is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups, particularly within climate journalism, media research, and communications.
